Increasing Cyber Attacks Highlight the Need

 

The '2023 Gyeongsangbuk-do Information Security Seminar' was held on the 12th at the main auditorium of Gumi University. This seminar was organized to enhance awareness of cyber security and response strategies for public institutions and businesses in response to the increasing cyber attacks domestically and internationally.

 

Hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and jointly organized by Gumi University's Cyber Security Research Institute, Gumi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Pohang Technopark Gyeongbuk Information Security Support Center, the seminar was attended by over 200 participants including Lee Seung-hwan, President of Gumi University, Lee Sang-joong, Director of Gumi University's Cyber Security Research Institute, Choi Hyuk-jun, Director of Gyeongbuk Province's Metaverse Science Division, and Hwang Byung-gwan, Dean of Korea Polytechnic University's Gumi Campus.

 

During the seminar, Professor Lee Ki-hyuk from Chung-Ang University delivered a lecture on protecting and responding to technology in companies, while Attorney Kim Young-min from KCL Law Firm introduced laws and cases related to protecting company technologies. Additionally, Shin Dong-hwi, Vice President of Stealien, gave a special lecture on company cyber security guidelines.

 

Director Lee Sang-joong of Gumi University's Cyber Security Research Institute stated, "In line with government policies, amidst the rapid digital transformation, we must strive for a cyber-safe nation where citizens can feel safe and secure." He added, "Through this seminar, we hope to enhance awareness of cyber security and establish response strategies."

 

Director Lee took office as the inaugural director of Gumi University's Cyber Security Research Institute in May last year, where he is conducting comprehensive research on protecting all data and information of the university and cyber security. He is also the first cyber investigator in South Korea, having served in key cyber investigation positions such as the Director of the Cyber Investigation Division of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and the Internet Crime Investigation Center of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
